Petrification is the process by which organic material is fossilized and buried with sediment. This is a natural process that takes millions of years to form.  Because of this, coloring and size will vary based on the nature of minerals. Petrified wood is a rare finite material. They are currently being harvested faster than the Earth is creating them.
